Kent youth club to host holiday event
Kent youth and their families are invited to attend a holiday party hosted by Kent Youth and Family Services.
The traditional event starts at 6 p.m. Dec 23 at. Birch Creek Youth Center, located at 12910 S.E. 273rd St. in Kent. It features refreshments, games and prizes and local restaurants are donating food.
"In the past, we've had to take money from our budget to be able to afford food for the party, but this year restaurants around here are giving us generous donations," said Cyoon McBride, program manager for family services. "We are really thankful to them and are excited about this great event." Kent Youth and Family Services provides professional counseling, education and support services to children, youth and their families in the community. Their goal is to empower youth and their families to meet their needs while being committed and responsible to the citizens of the Kent and Covington communities.
"We had 300 people come out to our party last year and it was just a ball," McBride said.
One reason the family service staff throw the holiday party is for the community to get to know one another.
"It's all about the community getting together and having a good time," McBride said. "The reason we call it a holiday party instead of a Christmas party or something, is because we have ethnicity from all around the world represented at the Youth and Family Services, so we want people to know that this holiday coming up is for everyone."
Kent Youth and Family Services is located at 232 Second Ave. S., Suite 201.
