KentHOPE plans homeless shelter meeting April 19
April 18, 2012 · 2:44 PM
A general information meeting about starting a homeless shelter in Kent is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at Kent United Methodist Church, 11010 S.E. 248th St.
KentHOPE, which wants to help establish a day center and eventually an overnight shelter for the homeless, will oversee the meeting as it tries to find a new location for the shelter after the Kent City Council declined the use of the Kent Resource Center as a day center/shelter.
The next steps by KentHOPE include:
• Searching for a site for a day center.
• Widening our network of support by contacting and enlisting more local congregations, businesses, service providers and professional organizations.
• Actively soliciting donations and planning a community fund raising event in the fall of 2012.
• Our executive committee, which includes representatives from several congregations, the Interfaith Task Force on Homelessness and Seattle's Union Gospel Mission, meets weekly in strategy sessions.
