Kent Pride events set for Sept. 8-9

The Kent Pride 2012 event to support Referendum 74, the same-sex-marriage measure on Washington’s November election ballot, is set for 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 at Burlington Green Park, East Meeker Street and Railroad Avenue North in downtown Kent.

Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke and State Rep. Dave Upthegrove, D-Des Moines, are scheduled to speak at Kent Pride. Cooke plans to declare Sept. 9 as Gay Pride Day in the city of Kent.

A kickoff event is planned for 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Long Dog Tavern, 209 E. Meeker St.

Kent Downtown Partnership and Long Dog Tavern are sponsoring the rally.
