Opening set for new boat launch
Residents are invited to a grand opening ceremony for the city of Kent’s new boat launch at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 at Lake Meridian Park.
Contractors with the city of Kent widened the boat ramp last fall to 16 feet from eight feet using pre-cast concrete planks. Workers also increased the ramp grade to 12 percent and added three handling floats for easier loading and unloading at the launch.
City officials will serve light refreshments at the ceremony.
City to remember officer killed in 1908
City officials will remember Harry E. Miller, the Kent town marshal killed by armed robbers in 1908, at a public ceremony from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the City Hall courtyard plaza.
Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke and Police Chief Steve Strachan will be among the speakers to talk about Miller, the only Kent Police officer to be killed in the line of duty.
