School meeting planned
Panther Lake elementary is topic of event
A public meeting to brief residents on the new Panther Lake Elementary School is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the school, 20831 108th Ave. S.E. in Kent.
Fred High, the Kent School District’s assistant superintendent of business services, and Fred Long, supervisor of facilities and construction, will give an overview of the project, including the site plan, floor plan and construction timeline.
Funding for the new Panther Lake Elementary comes from a capital bond voters approved in 2006.
Phase I, which includes clearing and grading, has already begun.
Construction is slated to start this summer. The completed school is scheduled to open in September 2009.
The current Panther Lake Elementary was constructed in the late 1930s. Two committees that included teachers, parents, community members, and local construction experts provided expertise for the new school’s appearance and function.
The facility will have several environmentally friendly features.
