Local markets open

Local farmers offer goods at two local farmers markets Saturdays this summer.

The Kent Farmers Market runs 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays through Sept. 27 at the Town Square Plaza on the corner of Second Avenue and Smith Street. For more information, visit www.kentfarmersmarket.com.

The Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market runs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 25 at the Des Moines Marina, located at South 277th and Dock Street. For more information, call 206-870-6527.

Sierra Club celebrates

The Sierra Club’s South King County Group will celebrate its accomplishments today at its annual Summer Solstice Picnic and Nature Walk.

The picnic potluck takes place 6:30-9 p.m. at Gary Grant Park on the corner of Southeast 208th Street and 137th Avenue Southeast in Kent. The event will include food and a walk with bird naturalist Mark Johnston along Soos Creek Trail.
