Kent punk/rock band making its mark; Thrilliant features 3 teens, 12-year-old

Kent guitarist Ryan Johnson and Federal Way drummer Dennon Cowen just kind of blankly looked at each other the first time they met for a jam session. Their fathers, Robert Johnson and Doug Cowen, are Boeing co-workers and suggested last summer that their musical sons meet. "They didn't say a word," Doug Cowen recalled. Now, about eight months later, the pair, along with vocalist Jeremy Cooper and bass player Derek Karn, are part of Thrilliant, a Kent band that plays a mix of punk, rock and metal.

Ross relishes job as magician on Disney tour that hits Kent Jan. 22

Brad Ross thought it was so cool when his mother hired a magician to perform at his 5-year-old birthday party that he decided to become a magician. Ross received a magic kit, took after-school magic classes and as a high-school student, he in turn became the magician at children's birthday parties. "I fell in love with it," Ross said in a Monday phone interview from Bakersfield, Calif., where he is on tour with the Disney Live Mickey's Magic Show.
