Kent features jazz, art

Jazz musicians and local artists will present their work at An Evening of Jazz and Art at 5:30-8:30 p.m. June 26 at the Kent Senior Activity Center, located at 600 E. Smith St. in Kent.

The event includes a jazz concert with Michael Powers, Greta Matassa and Richard Dean; an art show featuring local artists; and dinner and dessert. Admission is free, but tickets are required for food.

July 4 events in Kent

Kent’s annual Fourth of July Splash will take place noon to 11 p.m. July 4 at Lake Meridian Park, located at 14800 S.E. 272nd St.

The event features live entertainment, games, athletic contests, classic car display, boat parade and fireworks. Admission is free.

July 4 in Des Moines

Fireworks Over Des Moines, the city’s Fourth of July event, will take place 7 p.m. on the holiday at the Des Moines Marina, located at 22307 Dock Ave. S. Donations accepted

Sleep Country USA will accept clothing donations to its New Clothing Drive through July 20. Donors can bring new clothing items for foster children to any Sleep Country location. Locations can be found at www.sleepcountry.com.
