'So You Think Kent Has Talent' seeks contestants; registration deadline April 30

Contestants have until April 30 to register for the first "So You Think Kent Has Talent" competition organized by the Allegro Performing Arts Academy of Kent.

The preliminary qualification round is at 3 p.m. May 7 at the Allegro Performing Arts Academy, 1209 Central Ave. S.

The finals are at 6:30 p.m. May 21 at the Kent-Meridian High School Performing Arts Center, 10020 S.E. 256th St. Tickets are $10 for the finals.

The talent contest has three age categories:

Youth (12 and younger), Teen (13-19) and Adult (20 and older). There are large cash prizes thanks to the generosity of local businesses. All types of talent are welcome to participate.

The preliminary qualifications will narrow the contestants down to five acts per age division. The 15 finalists will perform at the May 21 showcase and will compete for the Grand Prize amount of $1,000. Other cash prizes are as follows: First place in each age division earns $500, second place $250 and third place $100.

The winners also will perform at Kent's Fourth of July Splash at Lake Meridian Park and at Kent Cornucopia Days as well as the Kent Cornucopia parade.

Proceeds from the show will benefit Kent Youth and Family Services.
