Dave and Chris Williams 1930 Ford Model “A” , Blind  Back Sedan will be one of the features at the  Kent Downtown Partnership first Rod & Custom Car Show.

This work of love was created by the Williams and their son, Mike and grandson, Bailey.

It took them more than eight years to build this beautiful car. The color was selected by  Chris Williams. The couple started this project with nothing more than rusty pieces and parts, including panels of the car that came with rust and bullet holes.

They built their own frame, bumper, gas tank and several other parts.

African rosewood was used for the dashboard, running board covers, license plate frame and other places.

The theme of his car is Rat Fink and several accents throughout the car represent the theme. He also has a four foot wooden carved Rat Fink.

They started working on this car in 2000 and completed it in late 2008. It has been on the road for three years. Their car has won several awards including People’s Choice, Ladies Choice, Best Ford, Best Flames (the flames on their car are raspberry and silver).

Dave Williams said most car shows donate all or a portion of their proceeds to a charitable organization. The more experienced car show exhibitors like working with the less experienced and help coach them.

When Dave Williams was asked what he liked most about showing his car he said, “Meeting new people and developing new friendships – friends of all ages.”

His family enjoys driving down the highway and having people give them thumbs up and when people show their appreciation for the years of hard work.

He also noted  he finds it rewarding that the car show exhibitors are all races, gender and ages.

The Williams are looking forward to the Kent Downtown Partnerships first Rod & Custom Car Show Aug. 27 in historical downtown Kent.
