October 19, 2011 · 1:07 PM
State Department of Transportation crews Wednesday are closing three out of five northbound lanes of Interstate-5 at I-405 near Southcenter in Tukwila for emergency concrete panel repair.
Crews will close the lanes from about 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 until until 4 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, according to the DOT website.
During the closure, the northbound HOV lane will be open to all traffic.
The southbound I-405 ramps to northbound I-5 will also be closed until 4 a.m. Thursday.
Crews are closing the lanes because 22 concrete panels of northbound I-5 are breaking apart and must be replaced immediately. In order to replace them, crews will close the lanes, remove the old panels, pour new concrete slabs and wait for the concrete to cure.
