Goodwill in Kent offers 'Boo-Tek' for Halloween

Kent's Goodwill is spooking customers out with a push for inexpensive Halloween costumes with a customized twist.

This year, Goodwill employees dedicated an area of their store specifically for Halloween.

"It's great to offer people the chance to be creative for a bargain," said Chris Politakis, Goodwill spokesperson.

From Thursday until Halloween day, shoppers headed to the "Boo-Teek" spot are greeted by a Goodwill "costume artist" responsible for helping them find the perfect costume. Customers can put together a costume for as little as $10.

"The great thing about creating an outfit through Goodwill is that these are real clothes you can use and wear again," Politakis said.

Goodwill launched its Boo-Teek special areas in all 28 stores from Tacoma to Yakima. Stores were packed full of costuming items before Labor Day.

"This is the first time Goodwill has really gone all out for Halloween," Politakis said. "So far, our response has been great. We've had customers tell us their experience is 'fun and cool.'"

Proceeds from Boo-Teek sales help fund Goodwill’s job training and education programs. The programs help disabled and disadvantaged people find work.

"Folks get more than a great costume," Politakis said. "They get the chance to support a great cause and give back to the community."

Goodwill is also hosting a costume contest on their Facebook page. Customers can take a picture of the costumes they assembled at Goodwill and enter them online by Nov. 5.

Goodwill will chose their favorites and post it on their Facebook page by Nov. 15. Shoppers can access the site by visiting facebook.com/goodwillwa.
