Kent apartment fire displaces 15
Nine Kent adults and six children were displaced by an apartment fire at about 8:51 a.m. Friday in the 1600 block of Maple Lane in the Kent Valley.
The fire damaged three units. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.
All of the displaced residents are being cared for by Red Cross. No one was injured in the fire.
A pet dog died in the apartment where the fire started despite efforts by firefighters to resuscitate it.
Firefighters arrived at the complex to find smoke coming from the roof and front door of a second-story unit. Other units were affected due to the fire getting into the walls and attic space of the building. All of the damaged units were on the second floor.
Investigators estimated the damage at $200,000.
In addition to the Kent Fire Department, King County Medic One and the Zone 3 Fire Explorer’s rehabilitation unit also responded to the incident.
