Kent firefighters extinguish house fire on East Hill; 6 people displaced
Kent firefighters extinguished a house fire Monday in the 25500 block of 118th Place Southeast that left six people without a home.
The two adults and four children were able to escape safely, said Kyle Ohashi, spokesman for the Kent Fire Department.
The fire broke out in the crawlspace under the house at about 12:05 p.m. Monday. Residents reported the fire as smoke coming from the crawlspace beneath the small, single-story house.
When firefighters arrived they found large amounts of black smoke coming from vents along the home’s foundation. Access to the fire was made more difficult by the fire’s location, but firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly to keep them from spreading to uninvolved areas of the house.
Red Cross has been notified to help find housing for the residents who are unable to stay at the home because of fire damage.
The cause of the fire iremains under investigation. There is no damage estimate at this time.
