No one was injured when a Kent School District bus slid off the road as it made a turn Tuesday morning, though it did create a traffic backup and visual distraction for many.
The 9:10 a.m. crash was at the intersection of Southeast 270th Street and 124th Avenue Southeast. The bus was traveling northbound on 124th and slid off the road into a ditch as it attempted to make a left hand turn onto 270th, according to a Kent Fire Department media release. Icy road conditions were contributing factors to the accident.
Thirty-four children were on the bus headed for Millennium Elementary School. All were evacuated by Kent Fire Department firefighters through an emergency door on the side of the bus because the main door was blocked by the ditch.
The district sent out another bus to get the children to school. The Kent Police Department is investigating the crash.
