Fire damages SeaTac home; Kent, Tukwila firefighters also respond

Firefighters from Kent, Tukwila and SeaTac responded to a house fire at about 2:40 a.m. New Year's Day in the 16800 block of 37th Avenue South in SeaTac.

The fire displaced a family of five, according to a city of SeaTac media release. The fire started accidentally in the kitchen.

Residents were awakened by the smell of smoke and tried to control the fire but were unsuccessful. They all escaped the house unharmed.

The entire home suffered smoke damage. Fire and water damaged the kitchen area. Investigators estimated the damage at about $40,000.

Red Cross worked with the family to find temporary housing and other necessities including food and clothing.
