Kent, Des Moines plan meeting for Midway
June 2, 2008 · Updated 10:45 AM
The cities of Kent and Des Moines are having a series of public meetings to gather the communitys thoughts and ideas on what Midway could look like in the future, what kinds of businesses are needed, and what types of transportation options would support a new Midway. Interested parties are asked to attend an open house from 6-8 p.m. May 28 at the Des Moines Activity Center, 2045 S. 216th St.
The Cities of Kent and Des Moines together will be reaching out to the public in an effort to find out what is needed to make Midway the best it can be, said Gloria Gould-Wessen, project lead for Envision Midway. We want to hear from residents and businesses in the Midway area, and those who shop or travel through there. Everyone has something to contribute when it comes to thinking about change.
The cities respective councils recently defined the mission for the project. The goal is to transform the Midway community into a sustainable urban area which enhances commercial development and optimizes its geographic location, wide range of transportation options, educational institutions, and views.
City staff will conduct follow-up public meetings in July and October.
