Three Kent candidate forums set for October
October is a busy month for those running for public office.
Kent has scheduled three candidate forum/debates for residents to attend.
On the menu:
• The Kent Chamber of Commerce and MultiCare Kent Clinic present a Kent City Council debate from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the ShoWare Center, 625 W. James St.
Those scheduled to appear are City Council Position No. 2 candidates Jim Berrios and Wade Schwartz, and City Council Position No. 6 candidates Bailey Stober and Ken Sharp.
Cost is $20 for those who pre-registered, $25 day of the event and $30 for guests $30. Register at www.kentchamber.com or call 253-854-1770.
• Voters can hear from candidates for mayor and the City Council at a candidate forum from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at Sunrise Elementary School, 22300 132nd Ave. SE.
A group of Panther Lake residents are sponsoring the forum. Panther Lake's 24,000 residents became part of the city of Kent in 2010 through annexation. The Nov. 5 ballot marks the first election for both the mayor and council positions since the annexation.
Those scheduled to appear include mayoral candidates Suzette Cooke and Tim Clark, and the four vying for City Council seats.
• The Kent Black Action Commission hosts a debate for mayoral, City Council and school board candidates from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 in the Kent Commons' Green River Room, 525 Fourth Ave N.
Bruce Elliott and Maya Vengadasalam are vying for a school board set.
