Kent animal shelter closed Monday

As King County Animal Care and Control finishes construction on new modular buildings and moves animals into its new facilities at Kent, the shelter will be closed to the public December 1. The closure to volunteers and the public will reduce safety concerns as work crews replace an electrical transformer, which will result in short, intermittent power outages during the day.
Though the power will not be out for long enough intervals to lose warmth in the building, organizers opted for closing the shelter Monday to reduce the number of people on site and to protect volunteers and pet-seekers from sudden darkness in the facility.
King County Animal Care and Control field services and enforcement will be working as usual, and staff will still be on hand to care for animals in the shelter that day.
King County residents who want to search for a lost animal or drop of a stray animal are encouraged to visit any other local shelter on Monday.
The Kent animal shelter will reopen with normal business hours Tuesday.
