An apartment fire displaced two people and killed a pet cat at about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 22400 block of the Benson Highway in unincorporated Kent.

One resident of the apartment escaped without injury.

The other resident was away from home when the fire broke out in the first-floor apartment, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.

A cat died in the fire from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters controlled the fire quickly and kept it from spreading to other apartments.

The displaced residents were provided with another unit at the apartment by the property managers.

As of Monday, investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire.
