Kent Police cited 19 drivers for running red lights during the afternoon of Sept. 9 at the intersection of 84th Avenue South and South 212th Street.

Officers set up the emphasis patrols at the intersection because it is a known intersection for where drivers often run red lights, said Lisa Price, Kent Police spokeswoman.

Price said officers attempt to run emphasis patrols every so often at various intersections in an effort to cut down on the number of drivers who run red lights.

Kent does not have red-light cameras at any intersections. Auburn, Renton and Federal Way are among the cities that use red-light cameras to cite drivers who run red lights.
