Get sandbags and sand ... for free. Starts Oct. 15

Kent residents can pick up free, empty sandbags starting Oct. 15 at the City Operations facility, 5821 S. 240th St., also known as West James Street.
Residents can get the sandbags between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 17, Oct. 24 and Oct. 31. Each household is limited to 100 sandbags.
City staff will hand out brochures with the sandbags that describe how to properly fill and place them.
You can fill your sandbags at one of six locations during daylight hours, although you should bring your own shovel. The six locations are:
• The old Panther Lake Elementary School, 20831 108th Ave. S.E.
• Fred Meyer store, 10201 S.E. 240th St.
• Earthworks Park, 742 E. Titus St.
• Home Depot store, 26120 104th Ave. S.E.
• Totem Middle School, 25630 40th Ave. S.
• Grandview Park, 3600 S. 228th St., in SeaTac.
City officials are looking for volunteers to help people fill, transfer and stack sandbags, which can weigh up to about 70 pounds.
