A 28-year-old Des Moines man was sentenced Nov. 20 in U.S. District Court to eight years in prison and five years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing crack cocaine with intent to distribute.
Amund Dresale Reynolds was arrested by Des Moines Police Jan. 22 after witnesses at a convenience store told officers that Reynolds had assaulted his girlfriend in the store parking lot, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office media release.
When police took Reynolds into custody they found a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol, with the chamber loaded, and safety off in the car near where he was seated. Reynolds’ prior felony convictions bar him from possessing a firearm.
According to court records, Reynolds has seven prior drug convictions, including one for distributing crack cocaine. All of the convictions are in King County during 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006.
In addition, Reynolds has been arrested 10 times for domestic violence against his girlfriends or mothers of his children.
The case was investigated by the Des Moines Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosive and the Port of Seattle Police Department.
