Register by July 1 for the After the 4th Cleanup in Kent
June 25, 2010 · 6:05 PM
The city needs volunteers to help clean up fireworks debris at four Kent parks. The cleanup parties would run 9-11 a.m. July 5.
The After the 4th Cleanup project will focus on West Fenwick Park, West Hill Park, Morrill Meadows Park and North Meridian Park.
Thousands of people celebrate at the annual Fourth of July Splash at Lake Meridian Park. But park officials say other parks also get heavy use and the parking lots and grounds are littered with debris from unauthorized fireworks.
City crews will drop off trash bags at each park site for volunteers to use. Maintenance staff will pick up full bags after the cleanup.
North Meridian Park becomes part of the city July 1 due to the Panther Lake annexation.
Volunteers should register by July 1, by calling 253-856-5110 or go to www.kentwaparks.com. Registering will give parks staff a better sense of community interest in the event.
