Clean up Kent event set for May 12

Kent residents can sign up to participate in a citywide litter cleanup day.

The Team Up 2 Clean Up Kent event is from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 12. Register as an individual or group by 5 p.m. Friday, May 11, at KentWA.gov/TalkingTrash.

Volunteers can pick up free gloves and trash bags and get directions to “hot spots” – the areas that need the most attention – by meeting at 9 a.m. at one of two locations:

• Kherson Park, 307 W. Gowe St. (Downtown)

• Golden Steer Steak & Rib House, 23826 104th Ave. SE (East Hill)

Trash bags can also be dropped off in donated dumpsters from Republic Services at the same locations and same day until noon.

The city of Kent, along with the Kent Downtown Partnership, Kent Station, Republic Services, The Golden Steer Steak ‘n Rib House and The Doorman Service Co. Inc., are sponsors of the cleanup.

Residents, neighborhood and faith-based organizations, civic groups, students looking for school required community service hours, youth organizations, businesses and families are encouraged to get involved.

“We hope to get a great turnout at this year’s litter clean up,” said Kent Mayor Dana Ralph in a news release. “Historically, several community organizations have held individual events. By working together, we can make a visible difference across the entire city. I look forward to seeing all of our wonderful volunteers that morning.”
