Auburn Police have arrested a Kent man suspected of being the driver in a hit-and-run incident that left a 15-year-old boy seriously injured.

The 26-year-old man, who has not been named pending charges, was taken into custody at his Kent home around 5 p.m. Friday, police said. The suspect was booked into the (SCORE South Correctional Entity) jail in Des Moines for felony hit and run.

“Based on information we received this (Friday) morning we were able to locate the vehicle that we believe was involved and have that vehicle in our custody,” police said in a Facebook posting. “The investigators on this case worked very hard and by late this afternoon were able to identify a suspect and take him into custody.

Police said the vehicle was a rental car and that the suspect cooperated with officers.

The driver struck and seriously injured Isami Brandan on Wednesday night.

Brandan and his friend were crossing Auburn Way North at the 800 block around 6:45 p.m. when a red vehicle travelling northbound at a high rate of speed struck the boy, police said. The driver didn’t stop.

The boy is recovering at Harborview Medical Center.
