Kent man dies after leap from third-story window

A 40-year-old Kent man died on Sunday hours after jumping from a third-story window at a Kent apartment complex.

Kent Police were dispatched around 1 a.m. Sunday to a report of a domestic dispute at an apartment in the 2100 block of South 272nd Street, where the family stated that their 40-year-old father was intoxicated and acting strangely.

It was reported that the man had grabbed two of the young children and went to a third-story window, according to a Kent Police media release. Family members were able to get the children back from him and called 911.

Prior to the officers arriving, the man jumped from the third-story window. He then entered a nearby vacant apartment where officers found him. The man growled at the police and ranted incoherent statements about Jesus, according to the media release.

The officers arrested the man without incident. However, shortly after being arrested, the man exhibited medical complications and medics who were on scene tended to him. Paramedics then transported the man to a local hospital for further treatment. The man died later in the morning at the hospital.

Police continue to investigate the incident. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the man’s name or cause of death.
