Luther Davis Jr., age 90, passed away November 16, 2015. Luther, son of Virginia and Luther Davis Sr., was born in Glenwood, Arkansas on July 1, 1925, where he spent his early years.
As a teen, his family moved to Washington, following his fathers job opportunities. He went to Wenatchee High School, and then moved back to Arkansas where he met the love of his life, Mable Berry, whom he married on April 5, 1944.
Luther enlisted in the Army in 1943, and was a paratrooper with the 17th Airborne Division. He fought bravely in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded and spent time in the hospital, but his heart was still with his comrades on the battle field. He was so intent on getting back to them, that he persuaded an Army officer to take him in his jeep and drive him back to join the troops. He was awarded the Purple Heart. After being discharged, he returned home to Arkansas to his wife and 4 month old son, Larry, meeting him for the first time.
Later the family moved back to Washington, where their second son, Richard was born. There, Luther worked hard as a Building Contractor, building many churches, homes, bridges and piers. He also spent a few years living and building in Ketchikan, Alaska. Luther attended many churches and was a devoted member of the Solid Rock Church in Kent, Wash., where he donated many hours of labor. Truly a proud WWII Veteran, he will be remembered as part of the greatest generation who fought for the freedom we enjoy today.
He is survived and loved by his wife Mable, sons, Larry (Patricia) of Wenatchee, WA, Richard (Barbara) of Auburn, WA, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Many thanks to the North Auburn Nursing Facility staff, for their compassion and care for our Dad.
Private interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery.
A Memorial service was held at Edline-Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel in Kent, WA on December 1st.
