ShoWare staff part of Kent school’s win

I was pleasantly surprised to see your article on Aug. 29 about Martin Sortun Elementary’s participation in the My Coke Rewards for Schools program. As the passive fundraising chairperson for the Martin Sortun PTA, I knew that we had done well, but had no idea that we were in the Top 10 Schools nationwide for redeeming My Coke Rewards points.
There was, however, something very important missing from your article.
We would not have been nearly as successful without the assistance of ShoWare Center. Brett Cornell, the concessions stand manager, and his staff collected caps from the Coca-Cola products sold at their stands and donated them to our school.
Their efforts resulted in a donation of over 12,600 caps which amounted to over 38,000 of the over 44,000 points that we earned. We will continue to participate in this program this year to earn much needed equipment and supplies for our school and look forward to the continued assistance of our wonderful community partner, ShoWare Center.

(Editor’s note: We are delighted the ShoWare Center staff was involved in this community effort. This letter is the first we’ve heard of that involvement, and we’re happy to give it the due it deserves.)
