Final race at Emerald Downs cancelled due to light failure | Horse Racing
July 29, 2011 · 10:12 PM
The final race on Friday evening’s program at Emerald Downs was cancelled for precautionary reasons due to a lighting failure.
Light towers covering approximately 25 percent of the one-mile oval—from the ½-mile pole to the ¼-pole poll—failed approximately 10 minutes prior to the evening’s seventh race, at approximately 9 p.m.
After an approximate 10-minute delay, the seventh race was run without incident, with Hoofprintsintime rallying for a $14.20 victory.
But after further efforts to restart the lights failed, stewards and track management decided to call off the eighth race as a precautionary measure.
All win-place-show-exacta-trifecta and superfecta wagers on the eighth race were refunded. However, Daily Double, Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 wagers were paid out.
The winning $2 Daily Double combination 8-ALL paid $12.40.
The winning $1 Pick 3 combination of 4-8-ALL paid $39.00.
The winning $0.50 Pick 4 combination of 6-4-8-ALL paid $77.50.
And the winning $0.50 Pick 5 combination of 6-6-4-8-ALL paid $430.65.
