T-Birds' playoff push falls short in 8-2 loss to Winterhawks

The Portland Winterhawks stopped the Seattle Thunderbirds' playoff push Sunday night at Memorial Coliseum with an 8-2 victory.

Seattle (25-45-1-1) needed to win the game against Portland to tie the Everett Silvertips (22-40-2-8) for eighth place in the Western Conference playoff standings. A tie would have forced a tiebreaker game between the T-Birds and Silvertips for the final playoff spot. The loss ends the T-Birds' season.

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 38 of 46 shots in what is most likely his final game as a T-Bird. He is a signed Colorado Avalanche prospect and it is expected to join the Lake Erie Monsters, the AHL affiliate of the Avalanche, in the next few days.

Pickard ends this season with 25-37-1-1 record. He finishes his WHL career as the WHL all time leader in saves with 7,727 and minutes played with 14,025.
