Right wing Branden Troock of the Seattle Thunderbirds hockey team has been named to Team Canada for the Under-18 World Championships April 12-22 in Brno and Znojmo, Czech Republic.
“This is a great opportunity for Branden to gain experience and help his draft position by playing against some of the best players from other countries in his draft class,” said T-Birds general manager Russ Farwell in a T-Birds media release. “He will do well in this tournament.”
Troock, from Edmonton, Alberta, just finished his first season with the T-Birds in the Western Hockey League. He appeared in 58 games and had 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points with 89 penalty minutes.
He is currently ranked No. 90 by NHL Central Scouting in the Mid-Term rankings of players in their first year of eligibility for the 2012 NHL Draft.
The Under-18 World Championship is a 10-team tournament. Team Canada is in Group A with the United States, Denmark, Czech Republic and Finland. Group B is composed of Germany, Latvia, Switzerland, Sweden and Russia.
