Memo to Mya takes feature | Emerald Downs

Memo to Mya held off a wall of closers and scored a 2¼-length victory Tuesday night in the $14,375 feature race for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by apprentice Eliska Kubinova, Memo to Mya ran six furlongs in 1:09.50 and paid $18.60, $7 and $3.80. Jonathan Nance is the trainer for owner breeder James Garrett of Boise, Idaho, who named the gelding after his granddaughter.

Mawing, Lucarelli win 3 in a row

Jockey Leslie Mawing and trainer Frank Lucarelli combined to win three straight races – the third, fourth and fifth – and are a combined 15-for 34 this season at Emerald Downs. A victory by Single N Lovin It in the fourth race – The Tony Lucarelli Memorial Purse – was especially meaningful for Lucarelli since the race was named in honor of the trainer's late son who died of brain cancer.

Since June 17, Lucarelli has won with 12 of 18 starters including a triumph by Winning Machine in the $50,000 Budweiser Handicap, and Lucarelli leads Tim McCanna 27-22 in the trainers' standings.

Mawing added a fourth win with a victory on Showboat Gambler ($12) in the eighth race has surged into second place with 42 wins. The defending ridingchampion, Mawing has ridden multiple winners the last five racing days.

Leading rider Juan Gutierrez had three wins of his own, and remains atop the standings with 46 wins.
