Former Mariner Bannister to be honored at Kennedy Catholic

Former major league pitcher Floyd Bannister returns to his alma mater, Kennedy Catholic High School in Burien, to be honored with his teammates at the school's Booster Hall of Fame Banquet on March 16.

The program begins at 7 p.m. at the school's gymnasium, 140 S. 140th St.

Bannister will speak at the banquet on behalf of Kennedy Catholic's 1973 baseball team that won the first state championship. Bannister went 15-0 with an ERA of 0.00 that season.

Bannister was named college player of the year while playing for Arizona State University. He was the first overall pick of the 1976 amateur draft.

He spent 15 years in the majors, including four seasons with the Mariners (1979-1982).
