A contingent of Northwest Funny Cars will kick off the inaugural Quick 8 Presented by The Sports Page in Auburn at Pacific Raceways on Friday, May 31.

Headlining the show will be the nitro Funny Cars of Maple Valley's "Mr. Explosive", Mark Sanders, and the "Northwest Hitter", Bucky Austin.  Other contenders include Puyallup's Randy Parker, the nitro car of Mark Hentges from Federal Way and Seattle's Dave Benjamin.

The fastest cars at Pacific Raceways will qualify at 6 and 8 p.m. with the quickest 8 returning for final eliminations under the lights.  The Quick 8 will be running for a $4,000 purse.

Gates will open at 3 p.m.  Spectator admission is only $6 for 12 and older and kids under 12 are free.

"It's time that Funny Cars return to Pacific Raceways," said Ed Garfield, drag strip manager.  The track was nationally known for its 64 Funny Car shows in the 1970s.  "There are so many good Funny Cars in the area and we want them back at Pacific Raceways for night racing.  For only $6, this is the best ticket all summer!"

Pacific Raceways is located just south of Covington at the 304th Street exit off Highway 18.  For more information, contact the raceway office at 253-639-5927.
