GOLF: Kentwood star Li wins sub-district tourney
Rui Li, who stars for the Kentwood High golf team, won the girls 16-17 age division with a 1-under-par 71 in the final Washington Junior Golf Association District Six sub-district tournament last Monday at Lipoma Firs Golf Course in Puyallup.
Li will compete in the district tournament next week at Classic Golf Course in Spanaway.
Three other golfers from Kent qualified for district during the competition at Lipoma Firs. Andrew Herron shot a 4-over 76 to tie for fifth place in the boys 16-17 age division, and Tyler Clavin qualified in that same division with a 79, placing ninth.
Erika Vossbeck earned her qualifying spot in the 14-15 girls division.
In the 12-13 girls division, Catherina Li of Kent made it 3 for 3 in sub-district play. This time, the 12-year-old Li won by 19 strokes, posting a 79.
TENNIS: Kent player picked for leadership camp
Ibraim Muchtasimov of Kent is one of more than three dozen youths from around the country who have been selected to attend the annual United States Tennis Association/National Junior Tennis League tennis leadership camp in Washington, D.C.
The 13-year-old Muchtasimov, along with other players ages 12-14, will get daily tennis training, but also will have time to visit various D.C. sightseeing spots.
