For the Reporter

Sunday's $50,000 Washington State Legislators Stakes is Round 2 for the older fillies and mares.

Eight horses are nominated to the Washington State Legislators Stakes, which at 6½ furlongs marks the final sprint and the second of four open stakes for older fillies and mares this season at Emerald Downs.

Once again, all eyes will be on Northwest Farms' brilliant undefeated 4-year-old Stopshoppingdebbie, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Curlin who made short work of the May 11 Hastings Handicap. Using an electrifying burst of speed around the turn, Stopshoppingdebbie and jockey Rocco Bowen cruised to a four-length victory over Madame Pele in a stakes record-tying 1:08.38 for six furlongs. Stopshoppingdebbie already has five Emerald Downs stakes wins including a sweep of the track's 3-year-old filly series in 2013.

Trained by Tom Wenzel, Stopshoppingdebbie (6-6-0-0-$156,273) is tied with 3-year-old Louisiana-bred filly Ide Be Cool (6-6-0-0-$324,600) for most wins by an undefeated horse in North America. At 123 pounds, Stopshoppingdebbie carries the most weight in the Washington State Legislators since Elana d'Amour finished third under 123 pounds in 2003.

Runner-up in the Hastings, Madame Pele is a double stakes winning daughter of Salt Lake. She won the 6½-furlong Mesa Handicap this spring at Turf Paradise and romped in the one-mile Comcast Sports Net Stakes on Washington Cup Day last fall.

Blueberry Smoothie and Goin to the Window will take another crack at Stopshoppingdebbie, their stable mate to whom they finished second and third in all four of last year's races for 3-year-old fillies. Blueberry Smoothie comes off a third in the Hastings and is 2-3-4 in nine career starts, while Goin to the Window, fourth in the Hastings, is 2-3-2 in eight starts lifetime.

Finding More, a stakes winner in Louisiana, looks to rebound from a fifth in the Hastings, while Stephanie Plum and Tabled With Gold are tough competitors in the higher claiming ranks.
