Joann to close fabric stores in Kent, Renton and Federal Way

Part of nationwide closure of more than 500 stores after filing for bankruptcy

Joann plans to close fabric stores in Kent, Renton and Federal Way as part of its nationwide shutdown of more than 500 stores among its over 800 locations.

While the chain did not release an official list to the public, it did submit locations slated to close to the court as part of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process, according to usatoday.com. Court documents list 533 stores across 49 states to be closed.

The stores include:

• Kent: 25810 104th Ave. SE

• Renton: 2823 NE Sunset Blvd.

• Federal Way: 31523 Pacific Highway S.

Joann listed 21 closures in Washington state, including Silverdale, Clarkston, Longview, Mount Vernon, Port Angeles, Walla Walla, Moses Lake, Everett, Shoreline, Seattle, Tukwila, Puyallup, Lynnwood, Tacoma, Arlington, Spokane, Spokane Valley and East Wenatchee.

Stores expected to remain open are in Bellevue, Bellingham, Port Orchard, Olympia, Kennewick, Spokane (second site) and Vancouver.

Joann filed a motion in court Feb. 12 seeking approval to close stores as part of an ongoing bankruptcy process. The Hudson, Ohio-based company filed for bankruptcy in January, its second filing in 12 months. The company didn’t say when closures will take place or how many employees would be affected.

Joann began about 80 years ago from a single storefront in Cleveland, Ohio, according to its website.
