Kent Downtown Partnership offers facade improvement grants

Up to $20,000 available to impact Historic Downtown Kent District

The Kent Downtown Partnership (KDP) is accepting applications from property and business owners through March 1 for facade improvement projects that will make a big impact in the Historic Downtown Kent District.

Because of generous support from WaFd Bank and 4Culture, this year’s grant budget is $20,000, according to KDP. Grants may be awarded in any amount within the budget, including possibly one grant award for up to $20,000 for the year’s program.

Projects eligible for consideration under this program include, but are not limited to, painting, signage, lighting, awnings, artistic installations, landscaping and other elements that improve a building’s “curb appeal.” Structural changes or repairs addressing the aesthetic or historical integrity of the building are also eligible for consideration.

Details on grant goals, requirements, and exclusions may be found on the KDP’s website at https://www.downtownkentwa.com/facade-improvement-grant/. The application form is available at the same link.

KDP will announce the grant awards March 31. Grant awardees must provide an update report by May 31. Work must be done by Nov. 30 to receive reimbursement.

During the KDP’s 2025 grant cycle, three recipients created refreshed and welcoming entrances through new signage, paint, and plants/landscape elements.

For questions about the grant, email KDP Executive Director Gaila Haas at ghaas@downtownkent.org
