Mayor Suzette Cooke and LA Fitness General Manager Tab Birdsell cut the ribbon at the Kent’s LA Fitness

The official ribbon cutting of the new LA Fitness facility, located in the old King County Journal press plant on Washington Avenue, took place Jan. 15, giving Kent residents a whole new place to get in shape, just in time for New Year’s resolutions.

Mayor Suzette Cooke was on hand to officially open the redesigned 51,000-square-foot facility.

The new gym includes a four-lane lap pool, racquetball courts, a full-size basketball court, more than 80 pieces of cardio equipment, an aerobics studio, a free- weight area, stations of circuit training machines and a separate stationary bike studio located on the building’s mezzanine.

The new facility, located near the crossroads of state Routes 167 and 516, also features trainers and approximately 50 classes per week, ranging from water aerobics to high-paced workouts.
