Residents can attend an open house on the city of Kent’s draft Shoreline Master Program from 3-5 p.m. Feb. 9 at the first-floor conference room of the Centennial Building, 400 W. Gowe St.

City officials will collect comments from residents on the draft program.

City staff continues to update the Shoreline Master Program as required by the Washington State Shoreline Management Act. The City Council is expected to consider adoption of the draft report in mid-2009.

In Kent, the Shoreline Master Program applies to the Green River, Lake Meridian, Big Soos Creek, Lake Fenwick, the Green River Natural Resources Area and portions of Springbrook and Jenkins creeks. Shoreline jurisdiction extends 200 feet landward of these bodies of water.

The Shoreline Master Program addresses policies and regulations aimed to protect shorelines while allowing for appropriate water-oriented activities, access and development.
