Wingstop still plans to open a location at Kent Station just not as soon as initially announced.
“The design process for Wingstop took longer than they expected and this delayed their (city) permit submittal,” said John Hinds, general manager at Kent Station, in an email. “Wingstop’s permit application was submitted several weeks ago and it’s my understanding they should have it in the very near future.”
Wingstop is a Texas-based national restaurant chain featuring classic and boneless chicken wings. The wing menu includes flavors such as Original Hot, Atomic, Hawaiian, Garlic Parmesan, and Louisiana Rub.
Sidney Rice, a former Seattle Seahawks receiver, owns several Wingstop restaurants in the Seattle-Tacoma area and plans to open one in Kent. The company had hoped for an October opening at Kent Station, next to Reds Wine Bar, near the corner of West Smith Street and Ramsay Way.
“Wingstop will be in a better position to predict the opening date once they start construction,” said Hinds, who added a contractor has been at the site preparing for construction.
• Kent Station also is in the process of filling the former Cal’s restaurant space.
“We hope to be able to announce a new tenant before the end of the year,” Hinds said. “It’s standard practice not to announce any new tenant until a lease agreement has been signed and Kent Station is diligently working towards that goal.”
