A steel beam from the World Trade Center New York’s 9/11 aftermath will be on display at this week’s World Trade Center Tacoma Globe Awards.
The steel beam was brought across the country by South King Fire and Rescue and will be permanently displayed in Federal Way in the future.
“We’re honored that South King Fire and Rescue is bringing this piece of our sister WTC to help us mark both 9/11’s anniversary and our annual Globe Awards,” said WTC Tacoma Executive Director Anthony Hemstad. The Globe Awards take place on September 8, 2011 – just days before the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center NYC.
The World Trade Center Tacoma is the only full-service World Trade Center in the Pacific Northwest. There are over 330 World Trade Centers in almost 100 countries. The Association’s former headquarters was in the WTC in New York.
The Globe Awards recognize excellence in international trade. Eight awards will be given out at Thursday’s 18th annual event. Award winners will mark the near-anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by reflecting on “thriving in tumultuous times.”
The event takes place from 5:30 – 8:30 pm at Tacoma’s Hotel Murano. The event’s sponsors include Bank of America, Columbia Bank, GBC International Bank and Pacific Lutheran University. Tickets are still available, contact Annie Zhou Molina (azhou@wtcta.org – 253.396.1022) for more information.
