A costly effort

Green New Deal, right.

Nothing “green” about it – a massive wind and solar build would require hundreds of thousands of tons of rare earth metals and other “technology” metals like indium, gallium, germanium, tellurium. The mining and extraction of these elements is a messy, toxic business, one which the U.S. has no stomach for.

But no worries – the U.S. is almost totally beholden to China for most of them anyway. So it’s OK if the pollution happens “over there,” right?

The GND is not new. In 1982 the UN warned that we had a mere 20 years to go green. Then in 1989 they warned we had 11 years. In 2007, it was four years. But no worries. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just gave us 12 years. Oops, she was joking.

The GND is a “deal” only for the fat cats who will run the carbon cap-n-trade rackets. All those “green” jobs? In China. We know the Chinese aim to stop selling minerals and emphasize the heavy equipment business. Wind turbines. Solar. Aircraft. Bye-bye, green jobs.

As to power generation, I note that the sun does not shine much here in the winter. Nor does the wind blow all the time. Big batteries? See the above on rare earths and technology metals. That not-so-green energy will cost a fortune.

No deal.
