A personal attack forum?

While I found the recent article about Mayor Suzette Cooke's condo dispute to be in poor taste due to the personal nature of the story, I understand the reality that our elected officials are subject to public scrutiny.

While I found the recent article about Mayor Suzette Cooke’s condo dispute to be in poor taste due to the personal nature of the story, I understand the reality that our elected officials are subject to public scrutiny.

However, I was shocked to turn the page and see the vindictive letter to the editor by Susan St. Clair, the very same person interviewed for the story and in dispute with the mayor.

It is obvious that Ms. St. Clair has an axe to grind with the mayor, which may or may not be justified. It is not for me to say. However, given this dispute I don’t think Ms. St. Clair is the most impartial judge of whether the mayor has the “right stuff” to do a good job or comment on whether she deserves a raise.

By giving Ms. St. Clair so much space to air her grievances it would seem that the Kent Reporter is serving to advance her slandering campaign against Mayor Cooke.

Was it your intent to allow your paper to be used as a personal attack forum? I certainly hope not.
