Cartoon was inappropriate

I understand that the Kent Reporter does not have the money to hire a good cartoonist and I understand that Frank Shiers Jr.’s politics are different than my own.

I understand that the Kent Reporter does not have the money to hire a good cartoonist and I understand that Frank Shiers Jr.’s politics are different than my own. That being said, the (April 10) cartoon goes beyond the pale.

In the panel some kids are discussing the potential raising of the age at which one can legally buy cigarettes, from 18 to 21. The cartoon says, “No problem … just munch on pot edibles.” Really? And what age does one have to be to buy pot edibles? Why that would be 21. And in Kent, there are no pot shops anyway.

So I assume Shiers, Jr.’s point is to spread fear and misinformation. That being the case, then the profession for this person would be better served in politics or religion.

It has absolutely no place in anything attempting to provide facts and calling itself a newspaper.
