Even if you do remember 1993 (“About our business climate today? Remember 1993”, Don Brunell column, Reporter, Nov. 17), there’s no need to panic.
For starters, a Democrat majority in both houses and the governorship doesn’t automatically mean massive Democrat policy enactments. Just look at how successful the Republicans have been so far in 2017 at enacting any changes to Obamacare, for example (or anything else requiring Congressional action), despite controlling both houses of Congress and the White House, and despite having previously vowed to repeal it.
But that’s not all. If you are going to remember a recent year, may I suggest not 1993, but a much worse one economically: 2008 – the year of a major nationwide recession, brought on by massive bank and sub-prime loan failures. And if there is any political party to thank for that, it is the Republicans, for their de-regulation of the banking industry.
And if you really want to see the full fruits of Republican tax policy today, try searching the web for “Kansas tax cuts.”
