Just read “Criminals’ rights secondary” (Kent Reporter letter to the editor, April 15) by Patricia Horn, and I feel I too know how she feels about teen criminals, due to my own experience during Dust Bowl days as a child. Today I’m pushing 81 years and lost my family when I was 9 years old. My experiences are vastly different in many ways.
I remember standing beside my mother when a local sheriff pulled a gun on her and took $400 from her, and was a SHERIFF and he was never caught. I well remember as an abandoned child that I helped a local bar tender stack beer cases and watch the bar tender give another sheriff $300 secretly, telling the sheriff he would get the other $900 “when the boys come around.”
I never knew if the boys ever “came around.”
Those were Depression days and I saw so many bad things take place while no one saw me watching, and teenagers still do many mean things for no real reason.
Many blame TV, others blame drugs, while even the professionals do it for money. Yet they learn too much from online, Internet and blog.
It holds being bored and too much time doing nothing interesting, and wasted time doing nothing and being greedy.
If I told you what I’ve seen, you would not believe it, even if shown.
Greed and ignorance create criminal activity beyond reality.
