Stay off the NFL field, Vick , it’s over

Array

Michael Vick, the former NFL quarterback who was sentenced in December of 2007 for bankrolling a dog-fighting ring, is currently awaiting a decision on his bankruptcy case. He also is waiting on a decision from Roger Goddell, NFL commissioner, to cancel his suspension from playing in the NFL. He is currently under house arrest, wearing one of those fashionable ankle braces that keep tabs on celebrity criminals like Martha Stewart. (What was she going to do ,bake muffins in someone else’s oven?)

As a fan of the NFL, not letting possibly one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time play is a blow to the NFL. But, I am a bigger fan of animal rights, and abusing dogs for his sick purposes should keep him out of the NFL forever.

That’s right, Mr.Vick. Plenty of people in this country don’t want to see you on the field. We would be reminded every day of your disrespect for dogs. It’s sad in this country that we give many chances for drug use in sports. Many athletes have been forgiven for being in a hotel with two hookers, an ounce of cocaine, and three bottles of Cristal. We all can relate to the trappings of booze and drugs. But run a dog-fighting ring? Why not go for the gold and come out against Girl Scouts, babies and apple pie? You would be equally received.

I am not one of the PETA folks who consider every animal sacred. Yes we murder animals all the time for food; clothes etc.But God put some animals on this earth to eat, and some to be friends to mankind. Salmon yes, Lassie, no.

But Mr. Vick committed a sin against animals, using them to gamble on. And while he had to spend some time in jail, (not long enough) he hurt and trained dogs to become killers. He says he is trying to get his life back, probably the one with all the cars, money, and fame that goes with the power of being able to do something that nobody else can do.

Go get your life back Mr. Vick. Become a better person. Take care of your family. Stay away from your buddies who think dog fighting is a good idea. And while you are at it, every chance you get in front of the microphone should be a plea for the ASPCA. No I don’t want to see you every Sunday on my TV anymore. There are plenty of people in the NFL who haven’t shown up on the front of my sports page, denying involvement in dog fighting. Give me a drug addict anytime over Michael Vick. At least a drug addict is only hurting themselves and their families. Dog fighting tears at the fabric of our society, brings us back to the cave-dwelling days and is a terrible thing to do to a dog. I hope he gets his life back, without the NFL, and learns what true priorities are.
