Free eye exams slated in Des Moines

Church celebrates heritage Sept. 7
Kent United Methodist Church will have a special heritage celebration at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sept. 7 at the church, 11010 S.E. 248th St. During the service, the church will commemorate its history – stretching back to the 1860s – with a special service, video and ringing of old church bells. Friends of the Library book sale coming up
The Friends of the Kent Regional Library will present their annual book sale Sept. 19 through 21 at the library, 212 Second Ave. N. Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 and 20, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 21. Books cost 50 cents; videos, audio books and DVDs are $1 each. Proceeds benefit library programs sponsored by the Friends.
